The Gothia Cup is the world’s largest international youth football tournament in Sweden. Each year around 1600 teams from 80 nations take part and they play 4500 games on 110 fields. Teams such as Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Besiktas and Everton participates annually and this is the first time Bromley will be taking part. Great players like Xavier Alonso, Sean Wright-Philips, and Alan Shearer have all taken part in previous years.
The Bromley Gothia Team is an elite squad, which consists of Bromley FC and carefully selected players from various football clubs around the local area. The total selected is 20 for this event.
We are taking an enthusiastic team of under 16’s, some from underprivileged backgrounds who have shown promise, commitment and talent.
We are confident that with their desire, ambition and love for the game, they will put Bromley on the international Youth Football map.
Bromley Gothia team has been selected to represent England in the Opening Ceremony. This is a very prestigious event and an honour to be chosen head of the parade. The ceremony is held in the Ullevi Stadium which seats 52,000 people and will be streamed live via the internet.
The boys have to date, raised money for their flight and partial accommodation and are continuing further fundraising events.
What is currently outstanding is £3,500 towards the cost of the boys daily expensesand to cover some of those who are struggling to pay their remaining balance. The team also require: Team training kit, kit bag, football boots for those who cannot afford it, first aid bag, training bibs, and penants.
The club has already made some contribution towards the team and we appreciate further and continuous recognition and support.
