With 2020 drawing to a close we take a look through what has been an extremely successful year for our women’s team.
Bromley FC Ladies Coach David Pointing provides us with an extensive update;
Well, where do we start? At the beginning I suppose! Way back in June with our pre-season schedule. With the return to sport we had to follow the latest guidance meaning we adhered to; social distancing, 2 metre rule, sanitised equipment – that’s just to name a few measures. Our training sessions took place at Norman Park and we had a great response from the team. Each session had good numbers and all were respectful of protocols through June and July.
As with any pre-season there will be new faces to welcome to the squad. This season we have had outstanding success with regards to a new influx of top quality players over the summer. Steph Donovan and Jade Davenport joined the Club having both been at the Crystal Palace Women’s set-up in recent seasons. Lucy Rix joined us from Peckham Town, as did Samantha Kilroy-Downs. Jade and Lucy have since gone on to pick up Player of the Month awards for September and October respectively.
All the above have made an impact since joining the squad. But, I must give a special mention to Summer Roberts who has joined us whilst also being a part of the Bromley Girls Academy. Summer’s energy, and enthusiasm has spread throughout the group. We are working hard at creating a pathway from the Girls Academy going forward, with Summer (the first of many we hope) being a great ambassador for Bromley FC and our progressive attitude and inclusive policies.
With the new season approaching, targets were set to continue the Club’s fantastic success from the 2019/2020 season. A campaign in which we secured promoted to Division 1 South of the GLWFC for the first time in 4 years!
That form has certainly continued, with the team remaining unbeaten so far and placed 1st in the Division 1 South table as we go into the Christmas break.

2020/21 League Results
As you can see below the squad are well represented in the League’s top goal scorer’s table. Further accolades currently include being top scorers, and having the best defensive record in the division with the fewest goals conceded up to this stage.
As a final note I would like to say a massive thank you to all at Bromley FC, especially Sue Whittaker and Jeff Hutton, for their continued support during these difficult times.
A special word also goes to all of the Bromley Ladies 2020/21 squad for their fantastic attitude and dedication. Finally, not forgetting Steve Payne (long serving Manager) and Ian Robertson (Chairman, Kit man and linesman).
