Bromley fell to defeat at Crabble on Boxing Day, as a disappointing afternoon ended in Dover Athletic recording a 3-0 victory.
The Ravens failed to really get going from the off in torrential rain and an increasingly difficult playing surface, to which the home side adjusted much the better.
They could quite easily have taken the lead on 9 minutes, as Inih Effiong was slipped in on goal by Ricky Modeste, only to be denied by an excellent save from Ryan Huddart when one on one. Luke Coulson and Adam Mekki had half chances for the Ravens in the opening stages, but neither could hit the target.
However, the hosts would take the lead after 25 minutes. Michael Woods went one on one with Huddart and slotted beyond him, only for the ball to get caught up in the almost swamp-like goalmouth. It mattered not though, as Modeste was on hand to smash the loose ball home after Sam Wood attempted to clear.
One became two in the space of four minutes, as Will De Havilland escaped his marker to head home Bobby-Joe Taylor’s corner.
As half time approached, Michael Cheek had a deflected effort saved by Worgan, before Adam Mekki’s flick from a Joe Kizzi cross was smothered by the Dover goalkeeper.
After the break, Bromley had an immediate chance to get back in the game. Excellent wing play from Ben Williamson saw him deliver a low cross on a plate for Cheek on the edge of the six yard box, but with the ball seemingly held up in the saturated turf, he mistimed his swing at the ball.
On 54 minutes, Huddart produced a quite incredible save to deny Inih Effiong a stunning solo goal, after he had ended a long run with a curling effort at goal. Bromley went close to scoring just before the hour mark, as a scramble ensued in the penalty area following the Whites’ failing to clear their lines, but neither Jack Holland nor Josh Rees could convert, with the latter shooting wide.
Substitute Andre Coker forced a smart save from Worgan just moments after entering the fray. Following some neat footwork, he unleashed a driven effort from the edge of the box, but the experienced Worgan was equal to it.
The Ravens would be made to pay for not taking their chances on 75 minutes. A defensive error involving Holland presented Effiong with the chance to pounce on a loose ball in the box and slot into an empty net.
Coker again went close in the dying embers of the game, but his deflected effort was somehow kept out by Worgan.
