Memorable Bank Holiday games

It wouldn’t be a Bank Holiday Monday without football therefore Jeff Hutton looks back at memorable Bank Holiday Monday games from the past…

Mon 29th August 2005 – Bromley 3-3 Folkestone Invicta

A glorious sunny Bank Holiday Monday at Hayes Lane and none of the 409 supporters could have predicted what they were about to witness. Bromley dominated the opening twenty minutes before watching in disbelieve as James Dryden scored a hat trick for Folkestone leaving Bromley 3-0 down five minutes into the second half!

Fifty-nine minutes on the clock, on comes Wade Falana to great cheers from the Bromley faithful. A minute later Bromley had a goal back, Fraser Logan scoring for the Lillywhites before Nic McDonnell headed the ball into the back of the net two minutes later! 3-2, game on! A minute before full time with Bromley still trailing by a single goal Wade Falana is sent off for a second bookable offence and the likelihood of a late equaliser seems to disappear. But no! Up steps Mark Willy to head home a dramatic equaliser in added on time and send the supporters wild at the benches end!

Bromley line up that day; Andy Walker, Steve Potterill, Mark Willy, Andrew Julius (Gavin McGowan 59), Tutu Henriques, Des Boateng, Barry Gardner (Henry Darko 86), Allan McLeod (Capt), Adolph Amoako (Wade Falana 59), Nic McDonnell, Fraser Logan. Unused subs: Adam Locke, Joe Vines

Mon 27th August 2007 – Fisher Athletic 0-3 Bromley

Don’t recall much of this one but I know it was a fantastic win in our first season in the Conference South. Starting line including Andy Walker, Barry Moore, Nic McDonnell, Gareth Williams, Garath McCleary, Sam Wood, Tutu Henriques, Francis Duku, need I say more.

Mon 30th August 2010 – Bishops Stortford 0-1 Bromley

This one made the list purely due to the inclusion of two great talents in the Bromley side that afternoon. Wes Foderingham in goal and Harrison Dunk. A rather uneventful game which was eventually won thanks to a brilliantly take penalty from Harrison Dunk which had been won by Nic McDonnell.

Mon 6th April 2015 – Maidenhead United 4-4 Bromley

Bromley sit two points ahead of chasing Boreham Wood, who have a game in hand over Bromley. It was always going to be a tough encounter against relegation threatened Maidenhead but no one expected such an eventful afternoon. Bromley found themselves two goals down within quarter of an hour thanks to two gaols from Adrian Clifton. Bromley got one goal back via an Anthony Cook freekick before Moses Emmanuel equalised with a header at the back post. Three minutes into the second half though and the Magpies were back in the lead. A long throw into the box couldn’t be cleared and Tarpey fired the ball home at the back post. Momentum finally swung the visitors way, Pierre Joseph-Dubois fired home a third for Bromley to leave the scores level before Reece Prestedge fired a low left footed shot from the edge of the box past the keeper to send the Bromley supporters wild behind the goal. The drama wasn’t over though as an unmarked Tarpey hit a ninety-third minute volley to leave both sides with a point.

Mon 28th March 2016 – Bromley 2-2 Forest Green Rovers

Second place Forest Green Rovers came into the game three points behind Cheltenham Town so needed to leave with a victory. It looked for much of the game like they would, 2-0 up and cruising at half time but Joseph-Dubois pulled one back from Bromley on the hour mark and despite going down to ten men Bromley went on to score a late equaliser courtesy of Jack Holland. Highlights below.
