Education for the 21st Century (E21C) and Bromley Football Club Academy (BFCA) are delighted to be continuing their unique and innovative collaboration. This scheme sees The Ravensbourne School staff being responsible for providing, high quality education to members of the BFCA. This is done by working closely with BFCA staff to ensure high quality support for BTEC Sport courses, and incorporating a full ‘A’ level provision for BFCA members who wish to follow this pathway.
This collaboration based on inclusion, greater opportunity and choice at Post 16, opened its doors to 150 students in September 2017. The students, made up of ‘A’ level students and BTEC students follow their academic studies under the guidance of TRS, with outstanding football education run by Bromley F.C. This encompasses the highest quality coaching and entry into one of 8 Bromley F.C. teams. Many students also access the 1st Team squad during their time with us.
The scheme has been massively oversubscribed in its first year and is set to expand further next year with the introduction of a girl’s academy.
Paul Murphy, headteacher of The Ravensbourne School commented; “This is a fantastic approach to engaging young people in Post 16 education; the students on the programme really do have the best of both worlds; a quality education and access to elite sport and elite coaching.”
Mark Hammond, Director of BFCA commented; “Bromley Football Club are excited to continuing this innovative partnership with one of the most recognised and leading schools in the Borough of Bromley and secondary school sector. This ground-breaking association has seen Bromley Football Club unite with Education for the 21st Century (E21C) and from September 2017, for the first time in the history of the Bromley Football Club Academy, successful Bromley Academy players are studying A-Level and BTEC qualifications from a range of different subjects. Together we are looking to produce a nationally recognised community-centred football club that addresses all levels of education within football. The Academy and The Ravensbourne School have designed a unique curriculum that is responsive and flexible, based around pathways and routes allowing players to access a future within the sporting industry. This pioneering framework will suit the player’s learning needs and aspirations both on and off the playing field. This joint vision will strive to maximise the development of every student enabling them to flourish.”
