17 year-old Ollie Tanner made his professional debut yesterday coming on as a substitute in our 2-0 away win at Sutton United.

Tanner, of the Bromley FC Academy Ravensbourne campus, signed for the club in 2015 when he was released from Arsenal – with Arsenal initially having bought Ollie from Charlton.

He joined Tom Beaumont’s Kent Youth League U16s squad halfway through the 2015/16 season, playing a year above his age. Tanner helped the squad to become champions as they won the league in 2016.

Ollie also enjoyed success the following the season, playing his part in the double winning JPL Youth Academy squad in 2017-18. At this stage he was recognised with huge potential and signed as a 1st year scholar in 2018-19.

During the 2018-19 season, under the guidance of U17s coach Tony Browne, Ollie demonstrated the will to work hard and was determined to succeed both on and off the field.

Ollie and the U17s squad finished as National League Youth Academy runners up and he was subsequently rewarded with a 2019-20 first-team squad number, 14.

Since joining the first-team squad, Ollie has appeared during pre-season games drawing attention from Reading, Fulham and Crystal Palace. Tanner has also been on the bench in both league and FA Cup fixtures this season before making his debut yesterday, replacing another debutant Ben Williamson at Gander Green Lane.

First-team manager Neil Smith spoke on the promising youngster’s debut;“It is a great day for the club and this is why the academy was reformed. To produce home grown talent and bring them through to my squad.”

Academy Director, and first-team Assistant Manager, Mark Hammond stated; “It’s amazing to recognise that a Bromley FC Youth player, who has come through the system, has made his 1st team debut at 17 years of age in the National League – it is a great day for the Club.”

He continued; “I’d like to thank Tom Beaumont, Tony Browne and Danny Mills for their mentoring and support in developing Ollie to this stage. Ollie is fully aware, the real hard work starts now.”
