This week we would like to give you an insight into our match preparation for a week in the Academy where James Fray and Peter Wedgeworth both of Bromley Whites have come together to write a joint blog.
---
We did not have a match last week so it gave us a lot of time to prepare for our fixture against Dartford Whites who are sitting at the top of the table. With our preparation in training from last week being really positive we were all looking forward to the fixture making sure we carried on the same work rate and enthusiasm into Wednesdays game. This is a brief review of our week.
Monday: We worked with the second year which always benefits us because they bring a good atmosphere and camaraderie for us first years. We worked on attack against defence, but mainly working with aspects of our defending and positional shape. We were split into two groups and who ever could score the most goals would win and the losing team would have to do a forfeit. We benefited a lot from this because we had to find different ways of breaking down the defence and making sure we came up with an end product to score goal.
Tuesday: Tuesdays is our preparation for our match days, with a game against top of the table opponents Dartford Whites we were trying to find out ways to break them down and continued our work from last week working on improving our combination play around the penalty box to try and break down tough teams like this. We haven’t been on the best run of form but we have preformed well but the results haven’t gone our way and we were looking to change it around even though they are top of the table. We went into the game knowing if you perform well on the day you never know what could happen on the day and with some inspirational words from Murray we were confident going into this game.
Wednesday (Match Day): Wednesdays kick off was earlier than the usual 2.00 therefore we had to leave Kelsey Park at 9 to be there at Dartford’s 3g ground for 11.00 kick off. After getting our last tactical instructions from Steve, we got the music going and got prepared for our game. With a positive warm up and a last minute team talk between the boys we felt the most positive we have done for a long time. We started the game well with having the most of the possession but not really finding the chances to score, but our back 4 was keep the top goal scorer of the league at bay. The midfield did a good job with breaking down the play and looking to use the wingers or play the ball in to the strikers. A first chance came with a clipped ball by Peter Wedgeworth in behind the defenders that found Omar Mcleary lobbing the keeper to go one nil up. We carried on with keep up the possession and looking for gaps in Dartford’s back four but just before halftime Dartford pinched a goal which changed our team talk for half time, we thought it would of dampened our spirits but with a another team talk we came out after halftime rearing to go again. We had a good passage of play before Jake Britnell got fouled in the box and got a penalty where he sent the goalie the wrong way and gave us the lead again, soon after Dartford scored against the run of play. We came back again trying to break the down the defence with James Fray and Jake Britnell bossing the midfield and then with a good move down the right hand side and then a great ball in Omar McLeay leapt up and scored a great header into the bottom corner which gave him our third and his second goal of the match. With us firmly in control of the match and frustrating Dartford another cross from the right hand side saw Omar climb above his marker to direct a header into the net for a well deserved hat-trick. . This was a great win for us because we had worked so hard over the week to gain this result over the league leaders with a well deserved performance. Man of the match: Omar Mcleary
Thursday: Thursday is our more relaxing day where we only come in for one lesson at 12.10, after a lot of hard work that we put in to in lessons, Thursdays we tend to just go over our work and make sure everything is up to date for Friday. For this training session we were going to have a light recovery session after yesterday game, we also we had a few of the year 11’s joining the session who are hoping to join the academy set up next year.
Friday: Friday we were given the day off from training but assignments were due with a deadline of today for both our teachers. Everyone was panicking to get their work completed to make sure we are on top of our coursework. We have to ensure that we are keeping up with all our coursework so we are up for selection on a match day.
