Under 12's clinch runner up spot
29 May 2012
Bromley FC’s Youth Section had their final fixture of the 2011-12 season this weekend, with Liam Plumb’s Under 12 side facing a must win game to secure Runners-Up spot in the Selkent U12 A Division. Bromley had the worst possible preparation to the game with two players not available. This left Liam with no subs to call upon for what was expected to be a tough encounter after the early season fixture against the Cobras finished in a 2-2 draw. The game started in frantic fashion with the Cobras being pegged back as Bromley’s passing game looked to strike an early lead. A goal was surely on the cards as Bromley squandered chance after chance, including an effort that hit the post, as the Cobras had not been given time to get a hold of the game and Bromley’s attacking football was relentless.
By the half-time whistle, Cobras were the happier of the two sides going in at 0-0. When the second half resumed there was no change in the pattern of the game as Bromley continued to dominate and with 15 minutes to go were rewarded with a penalty for the second game in a row and the same spot kicker Josh D made it 1-0. Bromley then moved up another gear as the Cobras were punished after more pressure, with an own goal doubling Bromley’s lead. In the dying minutes of the game, Antoine S hit a 20 yard screamer into the top corner to finish the game off. So jubilation for Liam and Dave Plumb’s side who selected Ronnie B as man of the match, for sticking in where needed and bossing the game throughout. Despite not scoring during the final game, James B finished top scorer with 16 goals, and not far away with 11 goals was Antoine S, with both players scoring many top drawer goals between them.
Liam summed this victory up today. “A very mature performance from a great bunch of boys”, who hope to go one better next season playing Kent Youth League football at Under 13 level.
