Academy 2-4 Boreham Wood
|
08 March 2012

Bromley Blues good run of form came to a rather disappointing end after losing 4-2 at Boreham Wood at the quarter-final stage of the FCYA League Cup.
Bromley started well with Quadir Maynard proving a real handful from the left and it was his cool finish that saw Bromley score the opening goal however it was Boreham Wood who then played themselves back into the game with two quick goals to see them leading 2-1 at half time.
The second half saw Bromley have lots of possession but struggle to break down a very resolute defence and never really liked like scoring. As Bromley pushed forward Boreham Wood scored from a poorly defended set piece and then added another quickly through an unstoppable 25 yard shot. The Blues picked up a penalty late on through Jake Britnell converting after he drove into the box and was brought down but the goal only brought respectability to the score. The hosts were well worth the win and there was no complaints as the better team won on the day. On a day where the team underperformed somewhat Tokunbo Akolade had a very strong game at centre half and Quadir Maynard was a constant threat on the ball.
The result now allows Bromley Blues to focus on the run-in for the league title where they have two difficult away fixtures next week against AFC Sudbury on Wednesday and Havant & Waterlooville on the Friday.
